Agenda for Version 1.2

I am making the following changes for the next roster update.

  • Added some 1988-1992 NHL players to California and Kansas rosters.
  • Corrected date of birth for Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, as he appeared 10 years too early in the draft.
  • Improved logo for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks (original png had blank space above/below logo)
  • Reduced overall ratings for California Golden Seals and Kansas City Scouts.
  • Removed duplicate Nikolai Khabibulin goalie in created players.
  • Slightly increased New York Rangers overall rating by 1%.

Duplicate Player: Nikolai Khabibulin

An FYI to anyone who reads this, there is a duplicate verison of Nikolai Khabibulin in the roster.

One version of Khabibulin starts with the California Golden Seals. The other, with a typo in his first name (Nokolai, curse my phone's keypad!), can be drafted and is a created skater. I would advise anyone who does not wants two Khabibulins to delete the one in the created skaters.

Draftable Player List

It took quite a while to do this over the weekend, but here is the full list of draftable players that will be in the 1.1 update when it is approved and available on the community rosters. There may be some notable players missing, but after adding 194 players, HLM21 began to become unstable and would crash/freeze a lot when creating and saving new players, so I had to stop. If there are any notable exceptions, let me know on reddit (username is UPRC).

Note that this players appear spread out over the course of 20 seasons, roughly appearing chronologically and in the proper years starting from the 1994-1995 draft.

1.1 Awaiting Verification

My 1.1 update has been submitted and should hopefully be appearing in the community rosters soon. The following changes/improvements were implemented:

  • 194 NHLers who will appear in the draft over the course of 20 seasons. I may try to add more, but I found out that HLM21 begins to become a little unresponsive when I start adding over a hundred created players.
  • Many free agency players were renamed to real life players who never played in the NHL (many were drafted, but never played a regulation game).
  • Default HLM21 skaters in the free agency who were not renamed have had their stats drastically lowered so that they do not outshine the real NHLers on any consistent basis.
  • Rebalanced a few players and teams (most notably NY Rangers who are now a few points higher overall, as they should be since they won the Stanley Cup in 93-94).

Free Agency Progress

Things are looking good with the free agency so far! A good number of free agents who are default HLM21 skaters have had their stats drastically reduced. In addition, I have brought the following real life skaters into the free agency:

Roger Akerstrom
Bill Armstrong
Aaron Asp
Jacques Auger
Darin Bader
Brett Barnett
Adam Bartell
Etienne Belzile
Laurie Billeck
Joel Blain
Mike Boback
Mike Bossy
Chris Bright
Jerry Buckley
Tony Burns
Terry Chitaroni
Todd Crabtree
Joe Crowley
Kirk Daubenspeck
Jiri Dudacek
Vladimir Dzurilla
Kyle Galloway
Mike Glover
Chris Gotziaman
Jason Greyerbiehl
Janne Gronvall
Craig Hartsburg
Derek Herlofsky
Robert Horyna
Daniel Jardemyr
Andrei Khomutov
Petteri Koskimaki
Pavel Kostitshkin
Frank Kovacs
Erich Kuhnhackl
Ryan Kuwabara
Alexander Kuzminski
Alexander Legault
Hakan Loob
Greg Louder
Steve Magnusson
Martin Maskarinec
Pat Mazzoli
Cal McGowan
Roman Meluzin
Tom Nemeth
Bil Nyrop
Rod Pasma
Randy Pearce
Nicolas Perreault
Charles Poulin
Jon Pratt
Bryan Rasmussen
Mike Santonelli
Ryan Sittler
Michael Stewart
John Vary
Rick Willis
Sergei Yashin
Alexander Yudin

More real life players will be added to the free agency and will make up a majority of the 75+ players. I am not likely to bother touching the lower ranked skaters since they're unlikely to be used, and are unlikely to amount to much of anything if AI teams sign them.

Agenda for Version 1.1

The following is on my agenda for the next revision/update:

  • Adding over 120 notable players added to the draft from the 1994-2010 drafts.
  • Renaming of default players remaining in the free agency to make them less effective in order to prevent them from outshining the actual NHLers.
  • Further revising the rosters for Atlanta, California, Kansas City, and Nashville.
  • Any rebalancing of player stats as per possible recommendations from Reddit users.
Update (18/09/20): The following changes are also going to be a part of my next update.
  • Increase of Rangers' overall stats to push their offense, defense, and goaltending closer to 90 overall. Each overall value has increased by roughly 3-4 points.
  • Theoren Fleury was mistakenly set as a defender. He is now a winger.

Roster Version 1.0 Available

The first version of my 1993-94 roster is now available via the community rosters in HLM21! This version does not contain modified free agents, and only has a few draftable NHL stars for the second season.

I will try to have a version 1.1 ready by the end of the weekend that will include over 100 draftable NHLers (they will gradually appear over the years) and a modified free agency.

Drafts & Free Agency

The NHL Draft
In order to prevent careers that use this roster from feeling like they exist in a weird parallel universe where only the 1993-94 players exist, I'm gradually adding in 100+ players that show up in the drafts. Players that can currently be drafted in their respective years include:

Daniel Alfredsson, Artem Anisimov, Nicklas Backstrom, Francois Beauchemin, Daniel Briere, Zdeno Chara, Adam Deadmarsh, Shane Doan, Radek Dvorak, Christian Ehrhoff, Jean-Sebastian Giguere, Dan Hinote, Jarome Iginla, Tomas Kaberle, Miikka Kiprusoff, Ilya Kovalchuk, Nikita Kucherov, Daymond Langkow, David Legwand, Kris Letang, Manny Malhotra, Patrick Marleau, Johnny Oduya, Carey Price, Michal Roszival, P.K. Subban, Petr Sykora, Marty Turco, Richrad Zednik, and Dainius Zubrus.

This is just a small start to the players I am adding so that real life players continue to show up throughout the years. I have a list of 113 further notable players to add, and I expect there to be more after that as well.

Free Agency
The free agency is currently a dumping ground for default players that I removed from the teams after I completed their 1993-94 rosters. At the moment I am simply going through and reducing their overall ratings so that they don't outshine the real NHLers. I may gradually sift through the free agency and replace the default skaters with real life players who had been drafted throughout 1989-1993 seasons but never played in an NHL game.

Featured Teams

The following NHL teams are included in UPRC's HLM 1993-94 Legacy Roster:

Anaheim Mighty Ducks
Atlanta Thrashers
Boston Bruins
Buffalo Sabres
Calgary Flames
California Golden Seals
Carolina Hurricanes
Chicago Blackhawks
Colorado Rockies
Detroit Red Wings
Edmonton Oilers
Florida Panthers
Hartford Whalers
Kansas City Scouts
Los Angeles Kings
Minnesota North Stars
Montreal Canadiens
Nashville Predators
New Jersey Devils
New York Islanders
New York Rangers
Ottawa Senators
Philadelphia Flyers
Pittsburgh Penguins
Quebec Nordiques
San Jose Sharks
St. Louis Blues
Tampa Bay Lightning
Toronto Maple Leafs
Vancouver Canucks
Washington Capitals
Winnipeg Jets

Teams that participated in the 1993-94 season are replicated with their full rosters, though I took the liberty of omitting players who only took part in a few games or had no meaningful impact on the ice.

I decided to keep the Stars in Minnesota rather than Dallas (since '93 was the first year that the team existed as the Dallas Stars) for nostalgic reasons and to make the full roster feel more old school and early 90s.

Colorado Avalanche do not exist since the Nordiques were still present. The Colorado Rockies take their place in Seattle's spot, so you will need to start the game as an expansion team if you want to use them.

Arizona, Seattle, Vegas and have been replaced with defunct teams (Atlanta, California, Kansas City). The Nashville Predators are still in, since I feel they get a free pass here on account of being a late 1990s addition to the league. They're hardly a "new" team anymore.

Teams that did not take part in the season (Atlanta, California, Kansas City, Nashville) have a mix of default HLM skaters and players who were of age in 1993 to play, but did not participate in any regulation games such as Jere Lehtonen and Peter Forsberg.

UPRC's HLM 1993-94 Legacy Roster

This is the first post on my blog for UPRC's HLM 1993-94 Legacy Roster, a roster pack for HLM21 that copies the (almost) entire roster of the 1993-1994 NHL season! Following posts will be made detailing what's included currently and what I'm adding in revised updates.
